We are in the process of developing a boys club for ages 9-12 (approximately) with aspergers, high-functioning autism, ADD, ADHD, CAPD or similar diagnosis/ability level. This "Boys Club" (which is what we will call it until it is named) will be headed up by Shawn Hay and we are grateful for Shawn's enthusiasm in getting this group going.

Shawn's Vision for this Group
We found "Exceptional Moms" and we were so excited to see activities for families. To be able to do Tae Kwon doe, with other boy, and have a chance for our son almost 11 (w/aspies, and autism) to be social. He has loved it! We do not have friends, and it seems the average parent really does not know what its like to walk in our shoes. I know that my older boys were in Boy scouts, and Iain wants to do this so bad, however at this age it is mostly sleep aways, and that is not going to happen. Not to mention I cannot picture him with a pocket knife. It seems Bullies are a constant and I would like for Iain to make friends.
According to Dr.s (several) and books. Its best with kids like ours with social issues to get together for maybe 1 hour or less, where the kids do not have to interact a great deal. Therefore will not argue and bicker. After they do this several times they start to build confidence and will learn to socialize. and then our time will get a little longer, etc
I would like to start a Club/ group/ whatever you want to call it. We can meet every couple of weeks, let the boys name our club. I would love input on what days of the week is best for some of you, times, places, etc..
Eventually wouldn't it be great to go hiking, maybe fishing, have a camp out.
Thanks and hope to see you soon,
